GERARD
Gerard was born and raised in Falstone, England. His father was a gamekeeper for Dally Castle, and Gerard followed in his footsteps. He started hunting at a young age with a bow, and then later on with muskets. He practiced both diligently, honing his skill. His best friend growing up was Lady Sophie, daughter of Sir Edward the Black, lord of the castle. Most of the story begins the year Gerard turns 18. He leaves home to sign aboard a trade ship and see the world.
His voyage is cut short by a storm, and Gerard is shipwrecked on the island of PukaPuka in the South Pacific. The indigenous people call themselves the Sand Maru, and they adopt Gerard. He becomes part of the village, learning their language, customs, and secrets.

The title of Captain Sharp was first given to him in the lifeboat with Bothari, Cuthbert, and Hudson. The four men spent 11 days drifting on the ocean, struggling to survive. Gerard earned their respect and trust by keeping them alive.
